(Cummings GA) The Bradley Central High School's wrestling team traveled this past weekend to Cummings, Gerogia to compete with 19 team in Sawnee Mountain Duals. Bradley wrestled 8 times
in the two day event and won all 8 matches making them the tournament champions. On Friday night, the Bears wrestled 4 teams in the seeding part of the tournament. Bradley's first
match was with Walton High School (GA) which they won 59 -11. Next for the Bears was Cass High School, 2008 Georgia AAA State Duals Champions. The match ended with the Bears winning 45 -28. In
the third round, Peach Tree Ridge (GA) lost to the Bears 45 -16 and in the final match of Friday night Bradley beat Gilmer County High School 65-6.
On Saturday, Bradley and
Pope High School (GA) were seeded as the number one and two teams respectively and later would see each other in the finals. Bradley's first match on Saturday was with Milton (GA) with the Bears
winning 56-4. In round two Bradley beat North Forysth (GA) 74-0 and the third round Bradley beat Jefferson, 2008 GA 1A state traditional and duals champion, 40-18.
The
champion match was an exciting come from behind win for the Bears. The match began at the 130 lbs weight class. Pope won the first match and then Bradley's David Graham lost at 135 in an overtime
match 8-6. Bradley won its first match at 140 lbs but then lost at 145 and 152 lbs. Bradley's Josh Disney won at 160 lbs but Pope answered by winning at 171 lbs. At this point in the
match Pope was leading 13-9 and neither team had scored a pin.
Tucker Bolton, 189 lbs for Bradley pinned his counterpart to make the score 15-13 for the Bears but Pope
answered by pinning Bradley at 215 lbs taking Pope back in to the lead at 19-15. As the big guys took the match, Bradley's heavyweight Cody Epperson took just half of the first period to pin the surprised
Pope heavyweight making the score Bradley 21-19.
The next match at 103 lbs had Bradley's Tyler Pitts pinning making the score now 27 -19 in the favorite of Bradley. But Pope was
not done, they answered by beating Ethan Hames in three periods 5-2. With two matches left the score is now 27 – 22 for Bradley and Pope still has a chance to win, but Bradley's and UTC signee
Logan Biddy pinned his man making the score 33 – 22 and making the Pope's hope for victory over. In the final match of the contest Pope pinned Bradley's 125 lbs making the final score 33-28.
Bradley's Logan Biddy and Cody Epperson completed the two day event undefeated and Ethan Hames and David Graham finished the event 7-1 each.
